Jaipur, September 4:

A leading missionary school in Jaipur suspended six students for
staging a ‘mock Ganesh puja’ in the classroom but withdrew it the next
day after protests by the BJP youth wing.

Disciplinary action was taken against six Class XII students
on Wednesday after they were found engaged in ‘mock puja’ with a poster
of Ganesh hung on the black board, a spokesman of St.Xavier School
said.

"All the students were sent home and asked to come
with their parents as the disciplinary action was taken against them.
It was a verbal decision of the Principal," he said.

Later in the evening, angry BJYM activists
indulged in stone pelting at the school campus and demanded withdrawal
of the suspension.

Six persons were detained but were later released, police said.

The issue was settled in presence of the Principal
and parents as neither the BJYM activists lodged a complaint nor the
school wanted to drag the matter, they said.

The spokesman, however, said the suspension was on
Thursday revoked after the parents assured the principal that their
wards would not indulge in any indiscipline in future.

"The six students were also asked to attend classes from Monday next," he said.

Among the students suspended was a son of a state BJP functionary, who refused to comment on the incident.

St Xavier School was established in 1941.
